Old anxieties are bubbling up, along with pain, humiliation, anger, and bewilderment. This time seven years ago I was raped by a friend. This year, though, I refuse to let that attack break me again. This year I'm taking all of that pain and turning it into something useful. This year I'm speaking out for my rights and the rights of every woman in this country. It's only March and we've already seen so many attacks on women's health and reproductive rights. Republican lawmakers want to force us to live with the consequences of that attack. They want to take away our choices. They want to turn doctors into rapists. These men who are taking away our choices are oblivious to the prevalence of rape. I wonder if they're even acquainted with the statistics? But, then again, how powerful are statistics really? They're just numbers. What these lawmakers need to see are faces. They need to hear our stories. They need to see that the numbers are true stories. Here's my story. What's yours?

Like an Ice-slick Canadian Road

1 out of every 6 American women has been the victim of an attempted or completed rape. )

The PA General Assembly voted unanimously to declare 2012 the "Year of the Bible". Freedom of religion also means freedom FROM religion. No state has the right to promote one religion over another. I don't begrudge anyone their beliefs or their religious texts, so please don't begrudge me my right not to believe as you do. My great-uncle Tony is a really cool man (we're certainly closer on the political spectrum than my grandfather and I are!). He sent me the e-mail below:

Warren Buffett, in a recent interview with CNBC, offers one of the best quotes about the debt ceiling:

"I could end the deficit in 5 minutes," he told CNBC. "You just pass a law that says that anytime there is a deficit of more than 3% of GDP, all sitting members of Congress are ineligible for re-election."

The 26th amendment (granting the right to vote for 18 year-olds) took only
3 months & 8 days to be ratified! Why? Simple! The people demanded it. That was in 1971...before computers, e-mail, cell phones, etc.

Of the 27 amendments to the Constitution, seven (7) took 1 year or less to become the law of the land...all because of public pressure.

Warren Buffet is asking each addressee to forward this email to a minimum of twenty people on their address list; in turn ask each of those to do likewise.

In three days, most people in The United States of America will have the message. This is one idea that really should be passed around.

Congressional Reform Act of 2011

1. No Tenure / No Pension.
A Congressman collects a salary while in office and receives no pay when they are out of office.

2. Congress (past, present & future) participates in Social Security.
All funds in the Congressional retirement fund move to the Social Security system immediately. All future funds flow into the Social Security system, and Congress participates with the American people. It may not be used for any other purpose.

3. Congress can purchase their own retirement plan, just as all Americans do.

4. Congress will no longer vote themselves a pay raise. Congressional pay will rise by the lower of CPI or 3%.

5. Congress loses their current health care system and participates in the same health care system as the American people.

6. Congress must equally abide by all laws they impose on the American people.

7. All contracts with past and present Congressmen are void effective 1/1/12. The American people did not make this contract with Congressmen.
Congressmen made all these contracts for themselves. Serving in Congress is an honor, not a career. The Founding Fathers envisioned citizen legislators, so ours should serve their term(s), then go home and back to work.

If each person contacts a minimum of twenty people then it will only take three days for most people (in the U.S.) to receive the message. Maybe it is time.

THIS IS HOW YOU FIX CONGRESS!!!!!

If you agree with the above, pass it on. If not, just delete. You are one of my 20+.. Please keep it going.

Developing: Obama Says Boehner Has Broken Off Debt Ceiling Negotiations

Obama said the deal on the table was generous toward Republicans. Obama said this was not a typical Washington "food fight" and " a lot of Democrats stepped up in ways that were not advantageous politically."

Know what I really love about this whole debate? That it's about what Democrats want and what Republicans want. When really? It should be about what Americans need. Instead it's about how these legislators can best protect their own wealth, status, and privilege.

I've been avoiding the news for the last many weeks. Mainly because I end up getting so pissed off and frustrated about the morons (Repubs and Dems) in Congress not doing thing one to fix our economy. But this article at Salon.com caught my eye: The economy is broken, and Washington can't fix it by Andrew Leonard. And this is my favorite sentence "The White House should be making it clear, every single day, that job creation must be the No. 1 priority." Yes, thank you, and A-fucking-MEN! Unemployment is at 9.2% Why the fuck are these politicians wasting time on the Blame Game? Suck it up assholes, you're all to blame. It's time to put away the rhetoric and find some solutions.

TOKYOPOP to close publishing in North America in May
Saw this bit of news on Twitter via The Yaoi Review. As Blu Manga is an imprint of Tokyopop, we can also say goodbye to their titles. No more Junjou Romantica, Sex Pistols, or newly announced Sekai Ichi Hatsuoki. More at Anime News Network and some interesting commentary at The Manga Critic.

Santorum for Prez?
On Shakesville I saw the news that Rick Santorum has formed a presidential exploratory committee. NO! Dear fucking god NO! He repped my state and was a bigoted douche bag. He no longer reps PA but he's still a bigoted douche bag.

But, in good news...

AMERICAN GODS TV SERIES IN DEVELOPMENT AT HBO
On Tor.com's Facebook page I saw a link to this headline HBO Developing Neil Gaiman's 'American Gods' for Series. Hopefully Gaiman will be as involved with the series as he was with the adaptations of Coraline and The Graveyard Books. Now if only they'd pick up Good Omens.

Production has begun on Peter Jackson's movie adaptation of The Hobbit
Check out Jackson's video blog. There are a couple of familiar faces and sets! Neat stuff. But such a tease! The movie is slated for release in December 2012.
